Counts whitespace-separated tokens and rounds the estimate up to a whole second. Reading speed depends on language, familiarity, layout and content complexity.

SIMPLE BY DESIGN

How to use Reading Time Calculator

  1. Paste the article or draft.
  2. Set an assumed reading speed between 50 and 1000 words per minute.
  3. Generate the estimate and review whether the assumption fits your audience.

Give a draft a transparent reading-time estimate.

A reading-time label helps set expectations when it is based on an explicit assumption. This utility counts whitespace-separated tokens and divides by your chosen words-per-minute rate, rounding up to a whole second. Use a slower rate for dense technical material and remember that code, diagrams and unfamiliar terminology require additional attention. The estimate does not measure comprehension or replace testing with the intended readers.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

A little more clarity.

Does the estimate include time spent reading diagrams or code?

No. It only counts whitespace-separated text tokens. Add editorial judgment for diagrams, code and complex concepts.

Is my input sent to a server?

No. This utility processes your input in your browser. URLs you paste are treated as data; the tool does not fetch them. Be careful with clipboard history on shared devices.
